Motion of the charged particles in the crossed electric and magnetic fields. Depending on the initial velocity the trajectory of a particle can be trochoid (blue curve) or cycloid (red curve). If the initial velocity V=cE/B, then the electrostatic force will equilibrate the magnetic force of Lorentz and the particle will move in a straight line (violet). |

Let us consider the motion of the charged particles in the presence of homogeneous and constant electric E and magnetic H fields, which are perpendicular to each other and to initial velocity of the particles. The particles with minimal velocities (from zero) are shown in blue color and most quick particles are shown in red color. The mean drift velocity of the particles perpendicularly to electric and magnetic fields does not depend upon their initial velocity and equal in Gauss system of units cE/H. |
